Pedestrian City, in collaboration with the Vancouver Public Space Network's Mapping &
Wayfinding group, is engaging Vancouver residents in the creation of a
green map.
The
City of Vancouver states that “greenness” is a key to our collective
identity and that we live in a green paradise. In response, the VPSN is
initiating a Green Map -style inventory to help them advocate for public
“green” space within the City. A Green Map can "create
perspective-changing community ‘portraits’ which act as comprehensive
inventories for decision-making and as practical guides for residents
and tourists."
Several sesisons took place at the Toast Collective in October and
November, where participants drew memory maps to discover the
local public spaces that matter to them.
These spaces will eventually be included on the VPSN’s green maps.
The project is currently on hold and sessions will resume in Sprig 2011. The maps that have been collected so far can be viewed here .
In the meantime, we will participating in the Liveable Laneways event in Mount Pleasant on Saturday Sept. 25th.
